Anguilla

On February 14th of this year William offered me a new camera: an Olympus E-510 IS. I realised recently that I never had the chance to use it since I am passing my time working at captain Oliver's... So last week end I decided to surprise him and to take time for ourselves.
So here we were, we went to Anguilla!
Anguilla is all about nature, peace, quietness, relaxation, beauty, friendliness and kindness, politeness, etc... I could add many of those virtues.
Once there we realised how much we did lost in St Martin, and the evolution direction the island took the last 12 years...
Anguilla is pretty much what St Martin was 2o years ago.
Pristine undeveloped and uncommercialised beaches (or if there is a resort on the beach, this one is perfectly included in the nature and form normally a perfect communion), no traffic, no crime, smile on every single face you can cross, a "hello" or a hand waving when you pass, no police or ambulance sirens, not over crowded, etc...
When we arrived at the Harbour, Blowing Point, we decided to rent a car... So we were kindly directed to a gentleman standing up on the middle of the Harbour facility yard, He greeted us, confirming we were looking for a rental car, he told us to follow him... which we did, we just walked few steps inside the little bar standing at the entrance of Blowing Point, he filled up the rental contract, asked me for $20 for a temporary driving license, and $35 for the car... I paid cash, I gave him my credit card for the deposit, he looked at me, smiled and said "no need", the shacked my hand! Wow.... It is really like St Martin 20 years ago!.... Then he added " gas is your responsibility I don't know how much is in the tank, enjoy your stay"... We were amazed, we didn't made business like that since many many years, and it was good to realised that there are still place in the world where "trust" and "honesty" mean something.
I obviously took a lot of pictures, so it is the reason why I made three different post on the blog about Anguilla, and be ready to see a lot of colors and a lot of beach pictures

We went to the Cuisinart Resort and Spa, and it is absolutely superb... An explosion of colors and serenity...

The gardens are absolutely gorgeous, perfectly done, with a variety of foliage ad flowers I really enjoyed, surrounding the buildings of the room, providing freshness and "nest heaven" for the birds.

Flowers are everywhere....

I even saw a tree that I do not know... May be someone can help (Dee?....), a tree with a very strong and nice perfume smell

and with a unique foliage... I asked around and amazingly nobody knew what kind of tree it was...

This one I know.... It's beautiful though!

But what's also impressive at the Cuisinart, it is the entrance... You go through a beautiful and very refreshing lobby first...

and then you exit on the infinity pool.... How gorgeous!...

Don't you think?....

And then on the beach... also undeveloped and uncommercialised!

Then further away from the Cuisinart, driving around the island (on the left...) we made a stop to different beaches, but even if some people may think they all look alike they are all very different, with only in common the fact they are unspoiled...

And of course some sceneries are breath taking by their beauty...

Even houses there are not built right on the beach but in a respectable distance from it to respect the nature and environment...

But hey don't leave now, you still have two more post to check about Anguilla with a lot of pictures, here below!

I am so glad that you got away and finally got to use your new camera, We really enjoyed our day when we went over on our trip. I would like to spend a couple of day over there so we could get a better feel for the island...Maureen

Regarding your mysterious tree...could it be the Ylang-Ylang tree? This tree, according to the website was made famous by Chanel No. 5...thus the frangrance...

Here's the website... then click on the Ylang-Ylang link and look at the pic. It could be what you were looking for...

Way to go Phillipe, Olympus will be hiring you for camera demos, assuming the Anguilla Tourist Department will give you up. Great photos. I now know where the mystery point on Go Beach!

I haven't been to Anguilla since January 2007. Even though I've only done day trips to Anguilla, I can tell it is truly a special place, and one that I hope to return to someday. I've made my husband promise me a few nights at Cuisinart sometime in our future!

I have an Olympus E-410 and I LOVE it. DSLR cameras are the best.

Thanks everyone. Anguilla is really a great island, I only hope it will not be spoiled like St Martin is. They have a very different approach of preservation, with a very British point of view regarding tradition and memories. That's all to their credit!
Vicki, you are absolutly right... It's a Ylang-Ylang tree. I knew the name but never saw ne in real life, so I couldn't identify it. And now I know also why the fragrance was so familiar... "No.5 de Chanel" was my Mom's perfume when I was kid.
Well I know she was on Anguilla that day!
