I just recently came accross some very very old postcard of St Martin. When I say "very old", I mean the begining of the century, I assume, and you will be able to judge by yourself.
The firts one is Marigot, general view, and someone wrote in French :"Bon souvenir, Adieu, Jeanne" which mean "Best memories, good bye (in the ultimate definitive way since you can translate it as "see you in front of God"), and it is stamped September 6th 1903 .

The second one is Marigot Harbour in front of what is now "La vie en rose", just below Fort Saint Louis.

Another view of Marigot Harbour and its fishing boats:

"Grand Rue du Bourg" is now what is called Rue de la Republique, and is the one where you can find Oro del Sol, Carat and Goldfinger, coming down from the Texaco gas station and the Gendarmerie to La vie en rose.

Just below is the street of Sandy Ground!

And then, it's what Philipsburg was at that time !
With the old Protestant Temple in front of the Court house

And the Court House...

here below is Back Street

Saltscraping in the salt pond

and in Grand Case...

I hope you enjoyed those treasure that I wanted to share !...

God, what great photos. What I wouldn't give to have those cards in my possession for my collection..my right arm maybe??
Dee says though that the one of Back street is actually Front Street, looking West. The building on the left with all balconies is the old Governor's Mansion ..the one that Willy Haize burnt down in the 70's..
the governor lived on top, and the administration offices were on the ground floor.
Barbara
I sent you where I got them!
And BTW, say to Dee that we are 1 to 1 , at equality, since he didn't knew oleanders had pods !...
All right, all right !.. Dee knew Oleander had pods, but not the Frangipani... I am bad!
These postcards are incredible. I can't believe how much the island is changing. I have been going there for over 30 years. My parents, grandparents, great and great, great grandparents are St. Martiners.
What is happening on the island (esp, on the Dutch side) is an outrage.
Peux-tu me donner + d'info.
