Since years, I was used to wake up to this
It is part of the Natural Reserve in Oyster Pond...
I was use to just walk down my steps and walk along the ocean with our dogs, play with them on the sand and water of Coralita Beach, and used to enjoy this little piece of tranquility and natural beauty...

But this is "history", as since few days, I am waking up to THAT :
Yes... you are understanding !!!... It is a new developement right on the Natural Reserve...
Close to hundred individual Condominium/Town houses are being built, plus a "Four" stars (yes I really said "Four"stars) Hotel (but no one knows exactly which chain will operate it yet... LOL), a "high-end" Thalasso-therapy center, etc, etc... Many people try to opose the developement of this area since years, but like everywhere else, they failed...
Yes i am upset ! I am upset because it is Natural Reserve and it shouldn't be developped. Specially so close from the water, as we know, at least the ones who went through, what Luis in September 1995, did to that particular piece of land...
I am upset because no more walk along the oceans with Caramel and Picolla, without being yelled at because I am trespassing on construction site! There is no more access to the water right now, and the only way is still to cut through the field. It is difficult to loose an habit, specially when this habit was a good one...
One hurricane like Luis, and we will have again some pile of ruins disfiguring one of the most beautifull part of our sweet St Martin. Ahhh ...!!! $$$$$ ... What people wouldn't do for you !!!!

Hello Philipe! Trough Jessica her blog I found yours! Your english is fine man i would not worrie about it if I was you! ;-) I would like to tell you that I like your blog, and we also like your dogs! Caramel looks cool! Me and my girlfriend will probably move to sxm in october / november. I allready have a job, and if everything goes as it should go, my girl will also have a job. Was it easy to get a dog on SXM? We are thinking about it to!
If you can please inform me on it by e-mail.
Guzzman,
It could be all right to respond but no email is available, and your profile is not accesible as well as you blog...
Cheers
Oh Philippe - I am so sorry to see this! It was a beautiful vista!

I agree with you that this over-development is stripping this island of all her beauty. I have painfully watched it, fought it in courts, to no avail, money talks the loudest.I thinks it's just around the corner, that tourists will no longer be attracted to this island and her traffic congestion. What then? My Oyster pond is only a memory, what I see today are just bunkers made of concrete and greedy developers and politicians with dirty hands. A paradise lost...
oh my gosh! i know where that is, right next to the abandoned coralita hotel! coralita is a beautiful beach great privacy but sometimes not so clean. i had to clean myself ;)
it is terrible i saw donkeys roaming through there when they were not working on sunday!
where will the donkeys go??
i saw the nature reserve sign and wondered where was the reserve!
i hope the French side does not go the way of the Dutch side!
