Sunday lunch at a LoLo...

Well, yesterday was my day off !... So my partner an i decided to go to one of our favorite place on St Martin : the "talk of the Town Lolo".
For some, "Lolo" means " Localy owned, Localy operated", but after few researches, I have to come to the conclusion that it is not the definitive strict translation for it. In Fact "Lolos" exist all over the Antilles, even in Islands like Guadeloupe, Martinique or even Haiti. The places are call "Lolo" even there, but as those island are not English speaking, the definition of "Localy owned, Localy operated" won't be valid...

Some say that the "Lolo" is the name given to the drum cut in half which were used to barbecue before using old 100 pound gas bottle also cut in half. In Guadeloupe and in Martinique, a "Lolo" is a small Creole grocery shop where you can find everything you need... Some sort of "Depaneur" for the french Canadians! Anyhow and whatever "Lolo" really mean, I only can say that I love them because they really reflect the caribbean flair we all came to find on St Martin.

First of all, order a cold Presidente or a Carib... Please don't go Budweiser, Coors, Heineken or Kronenbourg !!!... Nothing is better than a Caribbean Lager to go with creole food, except Ti Punch... And when I say "food", well, there is a full selection of it.
Stuffed Chayotte (Christophine), stuffed Eggplant, Creole Sausage and Conch Sausage (my favorites..), Johnny Cake, Stuffed Crab, Conch stew, Ribs (of course...), Lobster, Potatoe salad (the best potatoe salad ever !!!...) and all kind of barbecue dishes...

The menu is large and the choice difficult... It is why, after 17 years "going" Lolo, I fixed my choice on the same selection :
Ribs, Conch Sausage, Creole Sausage and Potatoe Salad... My partner choice goes for : Creole redsnapper with Rice and beans...
Some people will prefer the grilled Lobster with corn on the cob, other will decide on the caribbean shrimps kebab
There is something for everyone... Unfortunatly, talk of the town will be closed for the whole month of September and will re-open in October... we will have to be patient and find other alternative...
