Few days ago, I met a Lady on Orient Bay who was walking a beautiful Coconut Retriever. The Lady's name is Joelle, and the dog's name is Daisy. Joelle is one of the Club Orient home owner, and she vacation often in St Martin. She is also, I believe, one of the original founder of S.N.O.B. S.N.O.B. which stand for Spay/Neuter Orient Bay, is a local association for the welfare of Orient and else where animal population. They take care of several dogs and cats, and are trying to find good home for them.
Joelle was walking Daisy... Daisy is for adoption and if I post here on my blog, it is because I hope that may be one of my reader (either an island resident or a visitor) will decide to adopt her, may be take her back to the USA. Daisy live on a parking lot of a supermarket in the Dutch side, where she is being feed and given water (but no love...). Joelle take her with her while she is in St Martin, but last day, Joelle was heart broken because she was leaving the next day, didn't find a foster home for Daisy and had to bring her back to her parking lot. I promise Joelle I was going to try to help. The next day, from her house in the USA, Joelle emailed me. Here below is what she wrote. Please read, and if you are interested adopting Daisy, contact me. There is a link to my home page on this blog, and on my home page there is a link to my email address...

"All that I know about Daisy:
Miss Daisy was dumped at the Food Club grocery store at a tender age and is probably 1-1/2 to 2 years old. She was spayed last December by a Club Orient friend of mine, Sue. Since the grocer didn't claim ownership and numerous neighbors told Sue that they fed her, Sue returned her to the property after her operation. (Sue couldn't take her because she was already taking 3 puppies home to adopt out.) Sue asked that I look in on her when I was here in Feb. I went to feed her once a day. This August I found her to be a bloody mess. Thinking she had been in a dog fight I took her to a vet for antibiotics. Her severe wounds turned out to be "hot spots"! She had just itched and scratched herself until they bled and they never got a chance to heal. Since I was unable to adopt her (I have 3 island dogs at home) the vet gave her a shot of cortisone to break the itching/scratching cycle and a shot for the mange she had developed on her hind legs. She improved greatly in just 3 days time and her hot spots began to heal. She's a good girl, is house trained, doesn't jump up on the furniture (or people), loves to sleep all night in her kennel and relax in it during the day, isn't destructive when left alone free to roam in the house, isn't a chewer and only barks at certain men. She isn't aggressive with them, she just barks. She's extremely affectionate and nuzzles you with her nose and the side of her face like a cat! She's playful and silly...she jumps and leaps and wiggles like a puppy. She adores other dogs although she is tentative and scared initially. If they don't attack, she wants to play. She even tolerated the cat who came into my house. She was very interested in him and would have liked to investigate further but the cat wasn't willing. She's walking better on a leash now but she is very strong and has a mind of her own. She weighs approx. 30-35 lbs, the vet thought. She knows her name but isn't very good about coming when called if she is off leash and tracking some interesting scent. She's very smart. I walked her the first day I got her and when it was time to go home SHE lead ME back to my house. She's learning she has to sit for a treat.I kept her with me for 8 days and attempted to find her a home or foster home in the U.S. but was unable. I had to return her to the Food Club parking lot where she will at least be fed. But she has a lot of bumps and scars from living there. Although the owner of Food Club tolerates her and sometimes feeds her, he doesn't really want her. She deserves a good home where she will be treated well...a place where she will have a family of her own...one person or a bunch of people and a dog or 2 would be nice! She's a real people dog and will go to just about anyone who smiles her way in order to get a pet. Please, there must be someone out there who needs this very special dog to love.I went to feed her at Food Club on the day of my departure. She was so happy to see me that the food didn't interest her until she could properly show me how much she missed me...nuzzle, nuzzle, butt wiggles and tail wagging furiously. Then she ran over to my car and put her feet up on the hatchback where she always entered...."please, can we go back now?" It broke my heart to have to tell her I couldn't take her with me. She gave up, ate her food and I sadly left her with a really nice meaty bone to distract her. But she watched me leave, her chocolate brown eyes following me to my car...knowing I would not be taking her with me.

Vet history:
Jan. 2007-I think I told you she was spayed last Dec. but it was early Jan. I'm unsure which vet spayed Daisy...perhaps Marianne Fossat, perhaps Jean Christophe in Concordia.
Aug. 22, 2007-I took her to Marie Flamme (she's in a container in the parking lot of Peninsula furniture store). She received a cortisone shot for the hot spots and a mange shot. Also a STRONGHOLD application for fleas/roundworm...although I never found any fleas on her.
Aug. 23, 2007-Tito bathed her and dipped her to help treat her mange. I also gave her a PET LIFE worm pill to rid her of a variety of parasites.
Sept. 5, 2007-Tito will take Daisy from Food Club to Marie Flamme for another cortisone and mange shot. These shots have been prepaid.Sept. 13, 2007-Tito will go to Food Club and give Daisy her 2nd PET LIFE worm pill.

Thank you so much for posting MISS DAISY on your blog. I too, continue to search for a foster or permanent home for her here in the U.S. I can't forget her or get her out of my mind until she is settled in a good home.
And CONGRATULATIONS on the amazing return of your HAPPY DOG! His return proves that you should never give up hope. You must be so happy!
I hope for a happy ending for DAISY too.

Hello
We are Daisy's new mummy and daddy.
Oh, this seems too good to be true!!
Will Daisy really be coming to Canada after all of this!
l cannot even bear to think that we would be so fortunate to have her come home here to our home "Meadowview" in canada.
l can only think of her as being so lonely ..a dog huddled up, waiting, in the parking lot.. waiting for a new life...with us.
l guess dreams do come true, look at Happy!
Richard and Laura
