Things are not always so grey...

Things are not always so grey !... The French governement made recently the first surprising great move in favor of the protection of the environement.
Since years, the "Commune de St Martin" (the Town) wished to preserve the natural beauty of the site of "Baie de l'Embouchure" (The Galion). Thanks to the "Conservatoire du littoral" it is a done deal. After a long public inquiry it was found that part of the adjacent land to the beach was going to fall into developpers hands. The State then, qualified the zone as "utilite publique" (public used) to the tittle of the Natural Reserve and by "arrete prefectoral" dated from August 1st 2007, the State is expropriating all the parcels of land adjacent to the Galion beach.
The Conservatoire du Littoral is engaging itself to level down the ruins of the old galion hotel which became a refuge for squatters, druggies and rave parties, to give back to the area its original natural aspect. It is also projected to arrange some barbecue area for the public to enjoy.
This decision to expropriate is a drastic mesure, and sure it is not to the benefit to the land owner who will be compensated very little, but it is a great decision to preserve what is left of our sweet St Martin's natural beauty.
