Bobby Lee...

Well... We really can't help ourselves about adopting animals, can we?...
Since Friday night, Bobby Lee is the last addition to our already populated family. We think she is (maybe only part of ...) a Britney Spaniel. Again, she was dumped in Oyster Pond at the cross road in front of our restaurant (maybe I should stop to write about our love for animals in my blog as some people may read it and know where to dump their dogs or cats...seems to be a pattern here!!!).
As always when a dog is abandoned, she was scared, disoriented, hungry, started to lack trust regarding humans, and thought she had a beginning of mange and was pregnant as she had a "puffed" belly, but still can see all the ribs...
So what we did again?... we managed to approach her and show her that we were not going to hurt her so she can trust us. She slowly came up the steps next to the bar where some food and water were waiting for her, she eat of course but was more focus in her need of attention, love and caresses. So the first night when we left the restaurant we left her their, closing the gate to keep her safe on the deck, thinking she would know that it maybe her temporary foster home until we can find a better home for her. She was crying when we left and trying to go over the little gate (She didn't realised at the time that the restaurant is not really fence so she could get out very easily...). She obviously figured out later on during the night, because when we came back the next morning she was gone... All right, big disappointment !!! Maybe she will come back later?
Yes she did ! In the evening, on the middle of a busy service, she approached the restaurant again. So we called her and she came up the steps again, to eat , drink, and received a lot of caresses and love. At the end of the service, we did the same. Let her on the deck with food and water and locked the little gate to let her know it is her place if she want, for now. well she decided otherwise, and as she already figured out how to exit the restaurant the previous night, she start to run behind our truck crying and barking following us home (300 feet away from the restaurant).
When we arrived inside the house and after witnessing what she did, we look at each other, and it was not necessary to talk to understand what we both thought ! : We can not let her in the street like that one more night, so let allow her to come behind the gate, and sleep in front of our door with food and water, because we thought she had mange and didn't wanted her in contact with our other companions.
Great idea but it didn't worked... she started to cry outside and scratch the door to come in. So what we did? we opened the door and let her in... She was immediately "home"! Caramel, Piccola and Happy loved her and she loved them. And the cats? They didn't bothered and she didn't bothered either...
The mange?... well tomorrow we will bring her to Dr Swantson and if she has mange, then we will treat her and in addition give a preventive treatment to the others.
Her name ? All right ... how can we call her? Sometime it is stupid how name comes up... well this one came up because we were watching "To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything! Julie Newmar" with Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, John Leguizamo ( yes, yes, we do watch this kind of movies... we are open minded guys...LOL ) and one of the charactere's name in it is "Bobby Lee"

"Ah... Bobby Lee, Bobby Lee...!"

Saturday morning she had her first visit to the vet , and $165 later we found out she was healthy, no mange, no heart worms, not pregnant (but in heat... Damn!), and only had a skin fungus disease easy to treat and her "puffed" belly was because of malnutrition.
So we bought her a nice "Fuchsia pink" collar and leash, we registered her officially, and we will give her everything she need for the rest of her life:
Food, water, a home, and love, love, love, love and more love....

OMG
you did it again!
you made me cry!
Poor Bobby Lee!
Lucky Bobby Lee! She came to the right place.
you 2 are angels.
Someone once told me that when she died, in her next life, she wanted to come back as a dog in my house. LOL
Well, when I die, I definitely want to come back in my next life as an "adoptee".....either cat or dog..it doesn't matter.... in your house.

Dee laughed and said you guys are such suckers LOL and he's right.....
and God bless all the suckers in the world!

You guys are the greatest. You take such good care of the animals on the island. Thank God there are people like you and Bill out there to help the innocent animals. I am glad to hear the rest of the clan likes Bobby Lee. She really hit the lottery with you men. Hope all is well.

Philippe,

I started reading your blog from a link on TTOL. I am known as ECCO.
I was impressed by your love of life and the sharing nature you revealed.

You and Bill give me such hope. It takes a big heart and a blessed soul to do what you both do. You will be rewarded, hmm, in fact I think you all were rewarded, Bobby Lee was meant to be part of your Family for a reason.

I wish you luck in the future.

Be well,

Eileen

Again, what can I say but that you are both so full of love and caring for the less fortunate. I also could not imagine turning away Bobby Lee into the dark lonesome night. From what you describe, all she seems to have wanted was to be part of a loving home. In return she will give you both all the love she can give.

Today was a sad day for me as my little puppy Ralph developed pneumonia and is now lying in an Animal Hospital where they will try to get him better. I knew all along that he wasn't well but our Vet thought that the antibiotics would work and that it would just take time. Well, as a worried "Mommy", I refused to believe this and took him for Xrays...that's when our Vet immediately recommended he be checked by an Animal Hospital. They recommended he stay and be given alternate treatment. Everyone there just adored him but it was so hard to leave him to strangers. I pray that he will overcome the congestion in his lungs and be back with us by Wednesday or Thursday. He's only 12 weeks at 2 lbs. 11 oz...just so tiny.

Vicki,
I am so sorry to hear about Ralph, and have no words to tell you how much we are with you in this ordeal. It is extremely difficult to let on of our loved companion into stranger hands, but those are professional hands who will do everything they can to help him. We wish you the best and a lot of courage, and we wish Ralph the same, hoping he will be back soon with his mom and familly in good and strong health.

Thank you Maureen, Barbara, Elaine, Eileen and Vicki for your comments. Booby Lee is doing very well, we just need to try to get her out of the habit to eat the cat food ... When she she food she needs to eat, and she pass her days emptying the cat dishes where ever we put them ( even on "high" spot she find them...) LOL!
Barbara, thanks for your thought but wait a bit before showing up, we are kinda full house right now, and they are all pretty young, so will take loooong time before we have an opening !.... LOL

Thank you Philippe (and Barbara for your PM) regarding Ralph. Harvey seems to be lost without him even though Ralph would chase him all over the house and Harvey is 8 pounds!

I spoke to the doctor just now and he said that Ralph seems to be doing better and he seemed to be responding to the meds so I will find out tomorrow if he can come home. This is a big relief as I had very bad thoughts of all this happening.

Thank you again and see you in a few weeks.

Regards
Vicki
