Decision had to be made... Decision was made !...

Well since a while we, I, had to make a decision... As I already wrote, I had a pretty bad year over all since June 2006 and I came out of it, this May, particularly tired and mentally drained, resulting in lack of motivation, boredom, and need of "changes"... Other factors and criteria were also entered into consideration, particularly the slow down in local economy due to the huge gap between the two currency St Martin depends on : the Euro and the US Dollars. Obviously this gap is not soon to be reduce, and we sincerely believe it will depend on a new US administration, next year, to re-establish a "strong" dollars as it was in the general past. It is obvious, due to this reason that the economy won't get better in St Martin, and specially in the French side, where our actual business, Tabba Khady is located.
For all those reasons we came to a conclusion and made THE decision : Tabba Khady will go to sleep for an undetermined period of time starting this mid December... The lease on the building ends by the end of December and we decided to do not renew it. I know, it was not an easy decision to be made, but with the US Dollars hitting toward 1.50 Euro at the fixing by the end of this year, and per consequence 1.55 or 1.56 at the change point, it is not worse trying to make business for living anymore... When the gap will be reduce to close to the now old "1 to 1" and the situation will be resolve, then Tabba Khady may reborn from its ashes at another location.

In the mean time, I am contemplating different option regarding my future :

The first one would be, "Tabba Khady" is going "private"... I mean establishing myself as private chef and cater to our former clientele at their own place (Villa, timeshare condo, private condo or rental...), proposing a panel of 3 or 4 courses menu based on our actual "Carte", with the same quality standard that we are used to provide in our establishment.

The second would be to work for another establishment in any function available as I am 100% polyvalent (multivalent...) in restaurant industry.

The third one would be a total change of career, but this one is the one where I am still unsettle on which orientation my career should take.
I am pretty sure that few of my readers may be disappointed by this decision, but believe me, it wasn't taken lightly, and it is a very personal decision. I can agree that the best of the three options for some of my readers would be the first one, as they would still be able to enjoy a good meal with the Tabba Khady standards... But how many of them would be willing to hire a private chef for an evening while in vacation ? It is what I have still to find out before making this choice.
I am a bit sad about it, but like with everything else which happened in my life since last year, I just have (and will) to get over, and move on...

Hi Philippe: On a selfish level I am sorry to hear but I hope that this decision will open many new opportunities for you! I wish you the best of luck, whatever direction you end up going.

All the best,

Jess

Philippe,

Although I am very sad about your decision, we all have to make some choices in our life for us and our partners and not to keep other people happy...You and William did a wonderful job at Tabby Khady, but life goes on and what ever you do decide to do, I wish you much success...please keep the blog going so I can at least keep track of what you are doing...

On a lighter note, I hope that your decision was not for William's
sake so that it would be easier for him to lose weight...LOL...I know that you will be a success no matter you decide....

Hi Philippe,

As everyone has stated before, it is such a sad thing for you to decide this because this venture was your pride and joy (and one that was done to perfection) but I do wish for you that you find what will make you both very happy and content.

Maybe finding a place on the Dutch side might even be a choice you can add to your list. If you do decide this though, make sure there's plenty of parking (LOL) That alone could make or break any business on the island. Maybe in the Cupecoy area.

Philippe,

I am so sorry to hear about the closing of Tabba Khady. We will have to come visit your restaurant when we get to SXM after Thanksgiving. I think hiring yourself as a private chef and perhaps working part-time for another establishment on SXM for a while would be wonderful for you. You have such a talent, I would hate to hear you are not a chef anymore, but that is just selfish on my part. Whatever you decide to do, please pass the word on TTOL so we will know where you are. Good luck.

Oh man. I have never been to your place, and I was looking forward to going next year. Just goes to show...don't put off for tomorrow...I talked about going in July but never made it.

Best wishes to you.

Difficult decisions are just that... difficult. Bravo to you for taking a chance and moving forward to the next phase of your life. We enjoyed a nice meal at your place in January 2007. I'm sure with your culinary talent you'll be a success in whatever venture you decide to pursue. Best of luck.

Bummer.....first they did away with nudity on Orient Beach and now Tabba Khady is closing. There is no longer any reason to go to St. Martin.I wish you all the luck in the world. What does William think of all this?
